Tagging!

As you may have noticed I turned on tagging tonight. It appears to be working. I am kind of skeptical because it only took me a couple of hours to get it up and functional. Since when does that happen?

Tagging, omg wtf?

If you are interested in a bunch of blah blah blah about tagging check out this wikipedia article. Basically tagging is like categorizing but with an infinite number of categories. My recent post about vegetables might be categorized as “vegetables,” “corn,” or “dirty hippy.” Whatever, it is up to you.

Some thoughts

If we (people that enjoy RVABlogs) want the tags to be useful we need to tag things with useful tags. So here are two thoughts:

  • Tag a post with a general description of the subject it falls in: food, politics, art, etc.
  • Tag a post with a specific description of the posts’s content: performing arts center, doug wilder, watermelon festival.

If you want to see all the tags in a “tag cloud” check out the tag cloud.

One more thing

One thing I’ve been meaning to say for a while: if you open links in new tabs make sure you click the little pop icon. There isn’t a good way to get “web browers” to tell me when things get “opened in new tabs” which means pops go uncounted. So seriously, click that little balloon. Thx.
